Field Planning

Links to Hourly weather forecasts

Reptiles rely on their ambient environment for maintaining their normal operating body temperature.  This means they are often active when it is warmer than ~60 degrees F and they seek shade when temperatures reach the upper 90's.  The temperatures under which reptiles optimally operate often vary among species, and can vary by location - follow the protocols provided to determine if the weather forecast is adequate for reptile activity before conducting surveys.  Use the hourly forecast to estimate how long you may have to conduct surveys.  Keep in mind weather can change on the plains with little warning!
